Who cares?

Another day
Another dollar
Got beer in the fridge
So who cares about the squalor
The sirens
The violence
The desperation right outside

People come for many reasons and with many needs

  • A young mother who cannot afford the co-pay for her sick child's prescription
  • An unemployed father of three who needs workboots to begin a new job
  • A homeless woman looking only for a place to have a hot meal, a shower, and few hours of safety and rest
  • A mother who could not pay her RGE bill, has been cut off, and wants to use our stove to cook for her family
  • A man looking for support as he decides to enter a drug rehab program
  • Someone who has lost his ID and needs a birth certificate to begin the long process of proving that he exists
  • A woman who needs emergency transportation to an appointment
  • A neighbor who lives alone and wants only to enjoy being with some people for awhile

Monday morning breakfast

Breakfast begins at 9:00 every Monday. All are welcome for bacon and eggs, homemade bread, and lots of other goodies.

"It’s a wonderful, wonderful place."

Why? "Because Sister Peggy is a friend when you need one," says Debbie, who has been coming to Saint Joseph’s since 2006. “Sister Peg is a mentor who encourages you to do whatever is in your heart. If you need money or to get connected to resources, she’ll do that too. She’s an angel sent from God. She puts her heart into everything. Everybody loves her. She’s never let me down."
